Myron MedcalfMyron Medcalf is a senior college basketball reporter for ESPN and a versatile multimedia voice across the network’s platforms. He covers men’s college basketball with news, analysis, and in-depth storytelling for ESPN.com, while also serving as a host on ESPN Radio, including co-hosting the network’s NFL pregame show, “Countdown to Kickoff.” From 2021 to 2025, he was also a sideline reporter for ESPN’s television coverage of men’s and women’s college basketball.

Medcalf officially joined ESPN in 2013 after contributing as a senior writer beginning in 2011. His reporting brings a thoughtful, community-informed perspective to the game, with a focus on the stories and voices that shape college basketball both on and off the court. In addition to his regular digital coverage, Medcalf has played a key role in ESPN’s broader sports conversation through his radio work, known for blending sharp analysis with cultural insight.

One of Medcalf’s most meaningful projects came in 2014, when he traveled to cities across the U.S. — including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Louisville — to explore the enduring culture of playground basketball. The project gave him the chance to connect with local athletes and communities to capture the deeper emotional ties that exist between basketball and place.

Before joining ESPN, Medcalf spent six years (2005–2011) at the Minneapolis Star Tribune as a general assignment reporter and men’s basketball writer. He began his journalism career in Minnesota, building a foundation of reporting that would later inform his national coverage.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Medcalf earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Minnesota State University–Mankato in 2005.

In 2013, Medcalf received the United States Basketball Writers Association Rising Star Award. Beyond his work in sports media, he is deeply engaged in civic life. He operates a Minneapolis-based book club with more than 4,000 members, volunteers regularly at a local food shelf, and is an avid music and concert enthusiast.
