NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The White Sox have their asking prices for other teams for Chris Sale, as Chicago markets the left-hander, and some rival executives believe that Chicago’s intent now is much different than it was in July, when Sale’s name first emerged.
Back then, other teams report, Chicago’s asking price was so high — their requests were so enormous — that making a deal was all but impossible. Evaluators with other clubs wondered if the White Sox intent at that time was much more about gathering information.
Some evaluators who spoke to the White Sox then and are dealing with them now have a very different feel about the current conversations, and are convinced Chicago is pursuing offers in the earnest hope of finding the right match and moving Sale, one way or another.
