Vols RB Jalen Hurd out

Tennessee Volunteers running back Jalen Hurd will not play in Saturday's game against No. 8 Texas A&M, the team announced Friday.

Hurd, the leading rusher for the No. 9 Vols, was injured and missed most of the second half of last week's 34-31 win against Georgia. He didn't practice this week, and Tennessee officials declined to divulge the nature of Hurd's injuries.

The junior has rushed for 407 yards in Tennessee's first five games and has been an effective receiver out of the backfield as well as an excellent pass protector. Junior Alvin Kamara and sophomore John Kelly will split the carries in Hurd's absence.

The Vols were already without starting linebackers Darrin Kirkland Jr. and Jalen Reeves-Maybin as well as All-SEC cornerback Cam Sutton, all of whom are injured.
