MLB roundup

The Los Angeles Angels will never execute a full-blown sell-off; owner Arte Moreno is not the sort to tank a couple of seasons. It's possible the Angels will trade third baseman Yunel Escobar or right fielder Kole Calhoun, but it's unlikely because both players are under control through 2017 under reasonable terms. If they swapped either, they'd immediately have to go into the market to find a replacement for 2017, perhaps at a higher cost.

But the Angels do have players signed only through the rest of this year who may well be dealt, such as 32-year-old reliever Joe Smith, who has held right-handed hitters to a .703 OPS this season. Fellow right-handed relieverFernando Salas could be moved as well, and once catcher Geovany Soto re-establishes himself following his recent disabled list stint, he's the sort of veteran catcher who can draw attention.
